My Film Poster

Main Colours My film poster's colour scheme is very similar to 'The Last Exorcism' film poster which I analyzed in my research. It's mainly in black and white with a low contrast so has a very dull grey effect. The title is deep red and in a large, bold font, ensuring it draws the audience in as it stands out against the background. The black, grey, white and red all convey a dark and evil atmosphere which reflects the film and it's genre.
Main figures The entire background is a whole image, again similar to 'The Last Exorcism' poster. It is a very simple image of some woods, but they convey a sense of fear due to the possibilities of what or who could be lurking in the trees, reflecting the fear of the unknown portrayed throughout my trailer. The title 'Behind You' is cracked and red which symbolizes the idea of the damage done throughout the film by the mysterious character who is only revealed from behind a point of view shot as they are chasing their next victim through the woods shown in the poster.
Visual/Verbal Messages There are a few messages portrayed through images, colours and fonts in the poster but the most effective message is the verbal one. The piece of text, or a tagline which can be understood alone as an intertextual reference to the song 'Teddy Bears Picnic', but also applies strongly to the film, ‘If you go down to the woods today... You're in for a big surprise’, this relates to the location as it is set in the woods, but also again suggesting a fear of the unknown as a surprise implies you don't know what's coming.
Audience The image on the poster isn't to frightening or shocking, although it is clearly a horror. Therefore, despite horrors usually being aimed at a higher audience, this may only be certified a 15. The image being of the woods suggests it is a fairly conventional horror film, which is likely to attract a large audience but on the other hand, people may prefer something a little different and original.
Persuasive Techniques My actresses obviously aren't well known and my film has only got as far as a trailer, therefore it was difficult to include normal persuasive techniques such as critics quotes or well known actors. I had to rely on the images, text, colour and overall look of the poster to convey fear and horror and intrigue my audience.
Conventions Horror conventions featured in my poster are, the colours as they are mainly dull apart from a deep red which stands out and symbolizes blood and danger. Also, the image is dull and eerie, as well as revealing the main location which is very conventional for a horror.
Text Important information has been presented as text on my poster, intended to attract an audience. The basics such as the title and actresses names, but also the fact that it is a true story. This is likely to attract an audience because of the fact that whatever frightening events occur in this film are actually possibilities and could happen to us, this was intended to increase the 'fear factor' of my film.
